About Cozumel

Cozumel is the biggest island in Mexico, located on the Yucatan Peninsula (East side of México, in the Caribbean) with an extension of 392 square km, 28 miles long and 10 miles wide. It is separated from the Yucatan Peninsula by the Yucatan channel which is 12 miles wide. Cozumel is located on 20° 31' lat N and 86° 56' long W. The town of Cozumel is called San Miguel with a population of approx. 75,000 people.

How to get here

CANCUN AIRPORT: If you arrive at Cancun International Airport and you need to get to Cozumel, the best way to get to Cozumel is by plane if available, you could ask what airlines are making the flight at the airport as they are always changing, it will be a bit pricey but faster. Otherwise, your best bet would be a road trip.

The other way to get to Cozumel from Cancun is by land. You need to take an authorized airport taxi VAN to Playa del Carmen and take the Ferry to Cozumel, this will take about 45 minutes. The taxi ride to Playa del Carmen will cost you around 58 usd. To take one of these authorized taxis VANS, go to any of the TTC Booth located around the terminal and buy a ticket. The guys at the airport are happy to help you find other people heading to Playa, so that you can share the fare. Also an inexpensive way of doing it is by bus, there are ADO buses right out from the terminal on the parking lot and they are in great condition with AC and TV and they price goes down to 10-12us and they dont do many stops along the way so that warranty you a fast safe trip to Playa del Carmen.

In Playa del Carmen the Ferry pier is located 2 blocks away from the terminal were you will get out of the car or bus from Cancun, and the ferries sail to Cozumel almost every hour

Regular schedules and convenient service you can be in Cozumel in 30 minutes departing from Playa del Carmen starting as early as 4:00 AM to as late as 11:00 PM. Look out before you buy your tickets what company will depart as they alternate the times. You will be able to buy your tickets at the entrance of the pier terminal in each company booths.

You may buy your tickets right before you depart, or they can be bought in advance. Space on the boats is enough for the demand of passengers so you do not have to worry about availability. The approximate cost for a round trip Playa del Carmen-Cozumel-Playa del Carmen is about 16 USD per person on a single way trip.

During the ride you will be able to watch TV ads of Cozumel and Playa del Carmen, which contain useful information on both places, and in most boats you can also sit outside and enjoy the scenery.
