The Mexican National Kiteboard circuit started their 2008 season early with the “Regata Viento y Marea Cozumel” Nov, 16th to the 19th. It’s the first time the event has in the island but started about 4 seasons ago with the AKCM (Asociación de Kitesurf Centro de Mexico) The event started with light winds on the 17th and after running two heats we decided to restart the tournament for the following days. On Saturday the 18th the wind picked up to 16 knots and the Judges: Dave Turner (lite wave dave), Ed Holden, Daniel Therrien and Foka Racca decided it was enough to do the tournament. The judging criteria was single elimination and the results are as follows:
Home town favorite Adam Withington (Flexifoil and Crazyfly) took second to 3 time national champion Sean Farley from Colima. Paco Chan (GK and Crazy Fly) was the life of the party and ended up fifth place and started to climb his way up on the national tour.
We would like to thank all the people that came to the event, Ryan Riccitelly and The Kiteboarder staff and Richard Hallman.
The event will be done again next year and will be open to international riders with cash prizes, wait for the news pretty soon.
